Course commences!

My 11 week ambulance Technician course starts tomorrow! Very nervous and excited at the same time. The kids are gutted I will be at 'work' full time while I'm on the course so basically I will only really see them at the weekends as it will be their bedtimes by the time I get home. They have got so used to me being around all the time over the summer that its going to be hard to get used to the change. Wish me luck!

Spell checker!

After re-reading that last post I think I need one! I thought when I started this blog it would join the ranks of other 'medical' blogs on the web. I would chronicle my exciting adventures as I prepare join the ambulance service, exciting things about my kids and my wife but you know my life is just dull! Well, it is at the moment anyway, I have so much paperwork to do as I put my business to sleep and hand clients over to my brother in laws company which is an odd thing to be doing in a way. Giving business to competitors is always hard but to be honest business had taken a down turn anyway due to the economic climate so I probably would have ended up in a difficult situation financially anyway so this is a good time to get out and try something new anyway. And having recently watched the 'The naked Office' on Virgin 1 I realise now that the kind of consulting I do is probably not the thing businesses are going to want in the future! Not sure how people coming into the office with their kit off is going to increase productivity and and profits! Anyway, thats the past and now I have to look forward to the future. As part of that i've been reading a few blogs on the net and started studying up on anatomy and the body. So if anybody is reading this then feel free to point me in the direction of good blogs that show the real picture of what the ambulance service is like and any areas of study I need to catch up on. Right, Suze is picking the kids up from school today and should be home before long so we may just got to the park and have an ice cream, well thats what I want to do!

Me, myself and the others.

I guess i've been pretty lucky so far in life, I achieved more than most people do in their lifetimes by the time I was thirty. I had a top job as a management consultant earning big money, I had the cool bachelor pad, I had the car, and I had the woman of my dreams. Sounds good so far but there was a price to pay for that success and the price was the woman of my dreams. Jenny was a year younger than me when we met at Uni and strangely I didnt fancy her straight away, she was to be perfectly honest average looking but she had "it" whatever "it" is and she had a determined streak in her that meant I was hers whether I wanted to be or not. So she won me over, no arguments I didnt deserve her but she wanted me and who am I to deny a woman? Well, at least that was my attitude as a cocky arrogant little shit as I was in my early twenties. I treated her poorly for the next five years or so, always putting work and success first and leaving Jenny a very distant last. I spent a lot of time overseas and always managed to stretch those trips out for a few extra days to enjoy the night life and the women in a strange country and forgetting all about the woman at home who loved me with all her heart. Finally she had enough and left me and I dont blame her, just as I reached the top professionally I found myself on my own. I got home on Christmas eve and opened the door of a cold empty flat and realised everything I had achieved meant nothing without the love of my life to share it with. How I regret that now even though I'm married to a lovely women who loves me and has blessed me with two fantastic kids it still hurts to think that I let my "one" go all for the sake of a career. Now dont think for a minute that I dont love my wife, I do but it will never compare to what I felt for Jenny and never could but I was just too foolish and selfish to realise that if I wanted her to stick around I to put some effort in to our relationship and not take her for granted. A lesson learned and never forgotten, I just wish I could have learned it earlier.

A bit about me....

How much do you really want to know about me? How did I get to this point in my life? What made give up a cushy and well paid job? Is my wife my first love or my last? Do I want more kids? I think i may well answer all these questions at some point.

Er...Hello?....Anybody there?.......

Ok, im new to this blogging business so forgive me if its a bit rubbish. Im Rob, 34, married to Suzy with two kids, Josh and Abi. Both kids are now at school full time so im heading back into the world of full time employment. The mrs has been the majority breadwinner for the last six years or so and our married life hasn't always been straightforward but we've worked hard at our relationship when its felt like it was going nowhere and we have finally found a balance that lets us both be happy and fulfilled. Suzy started life as student nurse, it's what she had always wanted to be but after 14 months of studying and placements she realised it wasn't for her. This prompted a whole load of soul searching and arguments with me insistent that she should carry on and finish her course and qualify, im happy to admit I was wrong and Suzy had the strength of character to stand up to me and make a decision that was right for her in spite of family friends and husband telling her to do the opposite. The change that came over her when she left the course was amazing, from an irritable, unhappy, physically unwell person she once again became the woman that I fell in love with, happy, vibrant and full of energy. She then applied for a Trainee Ambulance Technician job with the local ambulance service and started her training a couple of months later. I realised then that its never a good idea to make a career more important than love and happiness and this prompted me to take a long hard look at my life and I made the decision to follow Suzy into the  Ambulance service once the kids were both at school. I'd worked as a management consultant for 12 years and had been very successful to the point of going freelance and making a hell of a lot of money, to my shame I even bought a Porsche! What a tosser!! Being freelance I was able to work from home and spend a lot of time with the kids which is something I have loved every minute of but now the kids are older and need me less so im back to work, as Abi said 'Dads got job!' Am I making a mistake by taking a massive paycut and working long hours? Maybe so but the job I was in no longer made me happy and having seen the effect being in the wrong job had on Suzy im not going to let that happen to me. Financially its no big deal to be honest, the house is mortgage free and we both have brand new cars, thankfully neither of us have Porsche's!! So we should be able to maintain a good standard of living for us and the kids. Suzy and the kids are just coming into the house as I type so I best get off here and help them fill the paddling pool they've been to buy! I hope to update this once a week or so but I make no promises, two kids and sunny weather make for a busy dad!
